영국 정부는 백신 접종완료자의 입국 전 (48시간 이내) PCR 검사 및 격리 의무를 폐지한 데 이어 최근 1월 말부터 백신 접종완료자의 도착 후 모든 검사를 취소할 계획이다. 그전에 입국시 격리면제자가 정기적으로 PCR검사를 받아야 한다. 또한 영국은 모든 장소에서의 코로나19 관련 규제를 철폐했다. 영국의 이전 정책이 바이러스학 이론에만 근거했다면, 새로운 정책은 더 많은 데이터에 근거한 것이다.
WHO에 따르면 최근 미국에서 코로나19의 주간 신규 확진 건수 (5,572,663건)는 작년 같은 기간 최고치 (1,669,986건)의 234%에 달했지만, 사망자 (13,003건)는 작년 같은 기간 (23,238건)의 56%에 달해, 치사율이 빠른 하락 추세를 보인다. 그러나 최초 코로나19가 일찍 전파된 동북부 주에서는 확진환자 수가 이미 빠른 속도로 하락하였는데 최고로 지난주보다 40% 하락하여 최대 정점기가 이미 지나갔음을 보여준다.
그래서 Fauci 박사는 이번 주 다보스 포럼(Davos Forum)에서 다음과 같이 말했다. '(미국의 Omicron의 변화는) 코로나19의 세계적 대유행에서 풍토병으로의 변화를 상징할지도 모른다 …코로나19가 지속하게 존재할 것이지만 사회 일상을 혼란시키지 않을 것이다. Omicron은 치사율에 있어 Delta와 다른 것은 다행이다(It could mark a transition from this Covid-19 pandemic chapter to an endemic phase...A disease that is endemic has a constant presence in a population but does not disrupt society...We were fortunate that Omicron did not share some of the same characteristics as Delta).'

According to WHO data, recently the peak in weekly confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States (5,572,663 ) is roughly 234% that of in the same period last year(1,669,986) , but the death toll (13,003 cases) is 56% of the same period last year (23,238 cases) , the death rate has dropped significantly. The COVID confirmed cases in the northeastern states where the pandemic spread occurred earlier has dropped rapidly, with a maximum decrease of 40% compared with last week, which suggesting that the maximum peak time has passed.
Therefore Dr. Fauci also stated at the Davos Forum this week: " It(the evolution of Omicron in the U.S) could mark a transition from this Covid-19 pandemic chapter to an endemic phase...A disease that is endemic has a constant presence in a population but does not disrupt society...We were fortunate that Omicron(death rate) did not share some of the same characteristics as Delta"
